What it really takes to put on an event
                                  By Michelle Miller

Hunt Test Chairman, Gary Miller and Board Member Peter Prato meet early Friday
morning to start their rounds: picking up birds, loading hay for ground cover and getting
the keys to the Assinpink Club House.  Florence Duggan and Garyhas already spent
many hours obtaining the proper permits, securing our gunners, judges, bird planters,
awards, tally sheets, food truck, getting the premiums out and figuring out any monies
needed.
Florence Duggan submits the correct paperwork to make sure we hold a sanctioned
event while Lois Smid spends the entire event time in the club house checking in our
entries, tallying the judges reports, keeping an eye out on our raffle prizes and being
general “housemother” for the event.

Gary and Florence arrive early on Sat. to get things organized and check in our judges and
assign our bird planters.  Gary has to load and deliver the birds early enough to start
seeding the course and Florence had to start seeding herself with Baiba Norton.

Saturday was chilly and windy, but at least the rain held off until after the last of the JH
braces were done.  The storm and heavy rains unfortunately left a flood in the club house
which Florence mopped up before any of the braces started.

We had many wonderful donations for our raffle and always look for contributions to
increase the raffle donations.  This year the coveted prizes, were signed and number
prints by John R. Matson, titled “Vizsla Snow Scene”,  Purina coupons for up to $50.00 of
ProPlan Dog Food,  and a pair of waterproof “Irish Setter” Boots. Other donations
included: dog biscuits, dog toys, plaque “Spoiled Puppies Live Here”, Seaside plaque,
cast iron Vizsla stand,, hunting scene decorator pillow, Purina hats, note pad and key
chain, designer dog leash, matching biscuit and water bowl.  All together we had 3 tables
with many varied  raffle prizes which made our choices all the more fun.

The winner of our 50/50 went home with $33 who then gave us $33 back. We made $158
for our raffle netting $183 for our treasury.

We always look for donations and help during the event. Club members/ guests can help
planting birds, relieve bird planters for potty breaks, run drinks to the field for our judges,
and tally sheets back to Lois, man the raffle table and 50/50 table   It takes a lot of
volunteers to help run any event!  It’s always more fun to help out and be part of the
working crew in addition to seeing our breed perform as they were born and bred to do.

Special thanks to Gary and Michelle Miller, Florence and Peter Duggan, Lois and Tony
Smid,  Lou Manupelli, John and Baiba Norton, Bob Rynkiewicz, Judy Zeigler, and Bob
Samer. Bill Garneau, Heidi Scripture, Lori Smith, Diana & Ralph Easton.
Many, many thanks to all who participated this
weekend in our hunt tests.  We ran over 70
dogs  with variable weather and a threat of rain
always present.

The dogs performed well and many walked
away with  at least one orange rosette and in
some cases, two.
Special thanks to our gunners, Lou
Manupelli, John Norton, Pete Duggan, and
Heidi Scripture.
They tell me that they never missed a bird!

Thanks also to our judges-Bob Rynkiewicz,
Lori Smith, Diana and Ralph Easton, Mike
Blanchard, Judy Zeigler, Tony Smid, and
Bob Samer.
NIce going, everyone, but I bet you are tired
from walking.
Thank you to Linda Hartheimer for providing friend who
gave us special biscuit treats to take home to our dogs.
Another thank you to all who participated and/or donated  to
our raffle.  We were able to defray expenses by about $150
Thanks to Lois Smid, for her secretarial help. I could not
have done it without her.  Michelle, thanks for bird planting
and raffle and 50-50 running!

Bill Garneau and Pete Prato for bird planting and
thanks to Baiba Norton for walking at least 10 miles
planting birds. Wow!  As always, special thanks to
Gary Miller for his leadership role in running our tests.
